2ND XV Match Report: Pershore 3rd v Upton (31-10-2009)
Upton RFC

Having lost last week in a friendly match to Hereford Greyhounds, Upton 2s were keen to get back to their winning ways. However due to Pershore struggling for numbers the game began with uncontested scrums which was not going to favour Upton's strong pack. Maurice Bottomley was soon putting Upton on the scoreboard by driving through several Pershore players and scoring under the posts. Joining him was Upton's number 8 Matthew Bookham in a pick and go from the back of the scrum. Not to be outdone the backs provided the third score with some nifty footwork in the centres allowing Ed Fowler the chance to score his first try for the 2s.

Though dominating throughout the first half Upton struggled to piece together the phases. Through a number of interesting decisions and Upton's ill discipline Pershore were able to scramble across the line and score just before the half time whistle. Upton were leading 21-7.

Upton started the second half lazily and allowed Pershore to collect a second try before Steve Avery sold a dummy to his opposite number and crashed over the line underneath the posts. Simon Harper, returning from injury, scored to give Upton their fifth try. Poor communication and a lack of scrummaging allowed Pershore to score another try. Entering the last 10 minutes of the game it was vital that Upton held on to their lead though Pershore kept stretching Upton's defences and scored their fourth try.

Upton won eventually 33-26 and plan to try and beat their previous 7 win streak.
