Upton's season finished with a fourth competitive defeat in the last four games but despite these loses things are looking up for the South Worcestershire side for next season. In their first season at this level the pre season target was to stay up but as little as a month ago they were joint top of the league, albeit with sides around them having games in hand. This loss has meant they finish the season 5th out of 12 but with a little more street wise play they could be challenging next season. This game stayed very tight until about 10 minutes before the end when Bedworth only led by 5 points. However two late tries by the already promoted Bedworth gave the score an unbalanced look.
Upton could have done better in this game if it were not for missed tackles and spilled ball. When they did have the ball the backs in particular were much sharper than their hosts and Chris O'Neil, Dan Aldersey and Alex Flower could all have scored tries in the first half. Upton did take the lead when O'Neil slotted a penalty but Bedworth replied immediately with an unconverted try when Will Carr was caught in possession and lost the ball. This lead was extended with a penalty before Upton took the lead themselves. Scrum Half Alex Pimlow, filling in for the ill Brad Raymond in what should have been his last game before retirement, kicked up field and a great chase by Flower allowed Luke Mathie to snaffle the Bedworth Full back. The home side did manage to recycle the ball but in their attempt to clear Fly half Dan Keyte blocked the kick with his chest and picked the ball up to score under the posts. O'Neil converted.
Once again though Bedworth replied immediately with a converted try after some poor tackling by Upton to make the half time score 15-10.
The second half started with O'Neil trading penalties with the Bedworth centre to make the scores 18-13. The scores remained the same until 10 minutes from time when from what seemed a forward pass Bedworth scored a converted try 25-13.
Upton sensing a score was necessary started to run the ball with Rob Heeley, Oli Jones and Pimlow always looking to find a gap. However the referee's continued interruption with the whistle did not allow the visitors to get anything going and Bedworth extended their lead with another penalty and with the final play of the game the home side took the ball blind from a scrum on half way and cleverly worked the ball to the winger to score.
