Upton 2nds hosted a visit from an experienced Tewkesbury 3rds team on Saturday.
The first twenty minutes saw both teams defending in an end to end battle, with Upton conceding a couple of early penaltys that Tewkesbury weren't able to capitalise on. Upton then had an attack which saw a break from the fly half down the blind side to score in the corner, but this was disallowed. Tewkesbury then made the most of another pentalty to take a 3 - 0 lead. Tewkesbury continued the pressure and then scored a try and convert to take a 10 - 0 lead before half time. However, Upton continued to fight, but were unable to convert a number of breaks before half time.
The second half saw Upton come out stronger, and with a few changes across the field. Upton put some pressure on the Tewkesbury side getting a deserved score when good work form the pack took them up towards the 22. The ball was then spread through the backs to winger Dom who shrugged off a couple of tackels to go over in the corner.
In an end to end second half, Tewkesbury continued to put pressure on the Upton defense, and a mistake from the replacement winger saw a kick charged down on the try line and a simple score for Tewkesbury to go 15-5 up. Upton were not finshed and continued to fight back and after several phases of attacking rugby from the Upton pack, Dave Hunt crashed over to score, with the converstion the final kick of the game, Upton lost a close game 15-12.
