Upton gave a rousing determined account of themselves against the well skilled leaders of the division and possible champions.
Having received a good beating earlier in the season, mainly due to a sloppy first half, Upton were keen to not make the same mistake again, but unfortunately they did. With 4 changes from last weeks defeat to Ledbury Upton had Luke Bolton at Hooker replacing Rob Heeley with personal issues, Chris Thomas came into the second row replacing Matt Bookham who went to the bench, Will Carr in on the left wing for Alex Flower and Mike Dodge at 10 in place of the injured Dan Keyte. These changes did seem to add something extra to a tired Upton side but two early sloppy tries meant they were always chasing the game 0-14 down within 5 minutes.
Upton slowly clawed their way back into the game and Dodge slotted two penalties 6-14 before the turning point of the game.
As Upton created multi phase ball and spread the ball wide, ex Upton player Chris Jenkinson intercepted inside his own half and sprinted 60 metres for a third Worcester try that basically sealed the game. As the last action of the first half Upton had a small mountain to climb against the wind in the second half.
The home sides second half performance though was excellent as physically they took the game to the visitors which unsettled them and resulted in two players being sent to the sin bin for continuous indiscretions. Led by the pack in the loose Upton continually drove at Worcester but after Mike Dodge had gone off injured trying to throw the ball wide became difficult after the rearrangement of the back line. Worcester extended their lead with a penalty before Upton finally crossed the line. Good Phase play again created a slight overlap left and Skipper Chris O'Neil decided not to use the overlap and stormed through the last line of defence for a consolation try. 11-24.
However Worcester managed another score of their own in the last minute as pressure on the Upton line allowed scrum half Watson to scoot round the blind side to make the final score 11-29.
